The Kingdom of Heaven — Week 3

Matthew 13: The Kingdom of Heaven (All-age)

Discussion notes based on the sermon preached the morning of 20 March 2022 am

STUDY MATERIAL

Read the passage again and don’t forget to start your meeting in prayer.

Particularly ask that the Holy Spirit would guide your discussion and help you to apply what is said in Scripture to your lives today. Sermons are available on the St John’s website or YouTube channel.

Sermon points:

What is a Kingdom? A place where a king rules over his people

– A surprising King
– A surprising people
– A surprising place

You can be part of this amazing kingdom – follow King Jesus

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

  1. How is King Jesus different to how we might expect kings to be? (See Matthew 27:26b-29)
  2. Why does Jesus’s death in our place and his resurrection make him the best king for us?
  3. In what ways are the people in Jesus’s kingdom surprising? (See Matthew 18:1-5)
  4. Why is it great news that we don’t have to be good/wise/strong people in this kingdom? How might that change how we relate to other people both inside and outside of church?
  5. What does the Kingdom of Heaven “look like” now? (See Matthew 13:31-32)
  6. Jesus’s kingdom might not look like much now but it will last into eternity. How does that help us to keep going with i) trusting Jesus ii) serving other Christians iii) speaking about Jesus to people?

PRAYER

Praise God for the Kingdom of Heaven and his gracious invitation to us to enter in.

Pray for the right perspective on King Jesus, his kingdom and his people.

Ask God for help to keep following Jesus, serving Christians and speaking about Jesus to those who don’t know him.
