Discussion notes based on the sermon preached the evening of 30-04-23

Read the passage again and don’t forget to start your meeting in prayer.

Particularly ask that the Holy Spirit would guide your discussion and help you to apply what is said in Scripture to your lives today. Sermons are available on the St John’s website or YouTube channel.

Sermon Outline

Pray that God would fill us with a knowledge of him, hope for the future and his resurrection power.

Starter: What kind of prayers do you tend to pray? For yourself and for others?

Read Ephesians 1:15-23

  1. Look at verse 15, Paul says ‘for this reason’ he gives thanks and prays for them. What reason? (Perhaps recap verses 3-14.)
  2. What exactly does Paul ask God for them in verse 17?
  3. How could you pray that for another Christian? Who could you pray that for?
  4. What else does Paul pray for believers in verse 18 and 19?
  5. What hope has God called us to in Christ?
  6. God’s power is working for us. From verses 19 to 23, how can we know God’s power is both good and powerful?
  7. Paul tells believers what he prays for them. How can we do likewise as we pray these kind of things for people?

Praise God for the hope he has called us to in Christ and his resurrection power at work in us.

Pray that God would open our eyes and by his Spirit help us to know him more and have more hope. Pray the kinds of prayer that Paul prays for each other!
