Jesus comes to die

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

Read Psalm 22:1-21

  1. David wrote Psalm 22, as far as you can tell what has he been going through? Who is surrounding David and who is far from David?
  2. How does what God has done in the past compare with how David presently sees God acting (or not acting)?
  3. In what ways does Jesus go through the same situation on the cross? Why did Jesus chose to do that despite being the Son of God?
  4. In what sense can we pray this kind of prayer as Christians? When do we feel abandoned by God even as Christians?

Read Psalm 22:22-31

  1. What has changed with David’s situation? Who is surrounding David now?
  2. How big is the assembly that praises the Lord? Who is included?
  3. What reasons make them praise God? (See verses 24,28, 31)
  4. Jesus says these words himself (see Hebrews 2:11-12). How does Jesus invite and enable people to join the assembly and praise the Lord?
  5. How does Jesus going through the cross and resurrection cause us to praise him?

Prayer

Praise God that he is with us in our suffering even when it seems he isn’t. Praise Jesus that he would suffer in our place.

Pray that we would cry out to God in trust like David and Jesus did. Pray that we would keep praising God with Jesus now and forever.
