Sermon Outline
Jesus Christ has humbly served us on the cross, so we should be humble towards others and not grumble.
QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION
Read Philippians 2:1-18
- In verses 1-4, what does Paul call all Christians to do?
- In what circumstances is it hard to value others above yourself? Why is humility hard?
- In verses 5-11, how does Paul summarise what Jesus Christ has done and will do? What is Christ’s mindset in all of this?
- Read verse 5 again carefully, how does the command here make you feel? (Do you feel overwhelmed, empowered, liberated, burdened, inspired, something else?)
- From verses 12-13, how is is possible to obey these commands? What should these verses lead us both to do and not do?
- Look at verse 14, Paul gets very practical and specific. When are you tempted to grumble or argue? How do verses 1-13 help us not to grumble as Christians?
- From verses 15-18, hat will be the two lasting results of not grumbling and arguing?
Prayer
Praise God for Jesus Christ and his humble service of us. Praise him that he would suffer and die in our place. Praise him that one day everyone will see his glory.
Pray that you would be in awe of Jesus Christ and humbling serve others just as he has served you. Pray against your own grumbling and argumentative nature.
