QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

  1. Look at verses 44 to 46, what response does finding the kingdom of heaven lead to?
  2. Can you think of examples when you do not have that appropriate response? (Think of times when your response might be mere intellectual assent, qualifying your commitment to Jesus or a withering commitment to him.)
  3. In what ways is Jesus’s parable of the net (v47-50) similar to the parable of the weeds (v24-30, 36-43)?
  4. How does the ‘bad news’ of the parable of the net help us appreciate the ‘good news’ of the parables of the hidden treasure/pearl even more?
  5.  From the passage, what motivations are there for us to tell others about Jesus and his kingdom?

PRAYER

Praise God that Jesus reveals his kingdom of great value to us and has invited us in.

Praise God that, when Jesus returns, there will one day be a final judgment where God will put all wrongs right and make all things new.

Pray that we would trust Jesus as we wait for his second coming.

Pray for help from god to point others to trust Jesus in this way too.
