Sermon Outline

Col 2:6-7 – Rooted and built up

So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Start with Jesus and Stick with Jesus

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

  1. How Paul describe starting with Jesus in these 2 verses? How does that fit with what Paul has already said in Col 1:6 and Col 1:21-22?
  2. How does Paul describe sticking with Jesus in these 2 verses? How does that fit with what Paul has already said in Col 1:23?
  3. What does sticking with Jesus and not moving on from the gospel look like? What would sticking with Jesus look like specifically when you struggle with sin, suffering and/or self-sufficiency?
  4. What things had God given us to build us up? See Col 3:16 for 3 ideas… (Answers: the Bible, other Christians, singing together)
  5. How can you make the most of God’s given means of building you up and building Christians brothers and sisters up?

Prayer:

Praise God for his kindness in sending Jesus to reconcile us to God by his death even when we were alienated and enemies of him.

Praise God that he sustains us and builds us up in so many different ways.

Pray that you would be built up and strengthened in your faith.

Pray that you would be able to build up others in your small group and in the church.
