Dear Church Family,
‘Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.’ Jeremiah 29.12
Over the summer I invite us to come and pray to the Lord for the needs of the church. Below I have listed a number of updates to fuel your prayer time:
1. Easing out of lockdown
Although most of the restrictions have now been lifted, we must remember that the pandemic is not over and some will be more cautious than others. Let us rejoice that we can sing again but let us also love one another as we seek to come back together. See here for guidance on coming in person and what to expect.
2. Youth Work
Unfortunately we have not yet appointed a new youth worker/minister, despite a number of interviews. Please pray as we pause over the summer to consider the next steps ahead of readvertising in the autumn.
In the meantime I am delighted to say that Jamie and Chloe Ginns have agreed to step in to oversee this ministry until Christmas. They’d be delighted to hear if you might be interested in helping in some way.
3. Holiday Club
We got off to a great start on Tuesday with about 60 kids joining in fun, games and Bible stories. Look out for the next ones – Tuesdays throughout August. Book here
4. Holiday at Home
Begins this Thursday for seniors, click
here for information.
5. Mission News – Mara Diocese Tanzania
Bishop George recently led a Diocesan Synod with all the pastors and lay leaders getting together to evaluate what the good Lord has helped them to accomplish in the past 4 years, and to discuss the way forward in the next 4 years to come. Give thanks that we, via the Mission Committee, were able to play a small part in enabling this event to happen through a financial gift.
6. Welcome Afternoon – Sunday 5th September 3pm-5pm
Many new people have joined St John’s during the lockdown and in the autumn we will be having a series of welcome afternoons. Please come if you feel new to St John’s for a time of refreshments and to hear about what it means to belong to St John’s – what we’re about and how you can be involved. Adults and children all welcome! (children’s activities available). To help us plan, please book in by emailing chris@stjohnsblackheath.org.uk
7. Sunday Services
Morning 9.15am and 11:15am services continue our sermon series through the book of Acts, the latter service being live streamed on our youtube channel.
In our evening 6pm services, we will be looking at Psalms 27-31. During August we will no longer be recording the service, although the audio of the sermon should still be available on the website.
There is plenty here to pray for, or join in with, over the summer.
Grace and peace to you in the Lord Jesus,
Eddie
P.S. Don’t forget the monthly Prayer Gathering on Monday 9th August 8pm-9pm at church.
