Love Your Neighbour

Dear Church Family

I am writing to let you know about an exciting new initiative beginning now at St John’s as part of our current focus on discipleship:

‘Love your neighbour by sharing and showing the gospel’

Matt 22: 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’[c] 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’[d] 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Love your neighbour by sharing the gospel.

We all long for our ‘neighbours’ to know Jesus and experience for themselves that wonderful love He has for us. For the last 4 years many of us have been praying this for our friends, family, work colleagues by committing regularly to pray for at least 3 people through our ‘Pray for 3’ initiative. Thank you for your commitment to this.

We would now like to encourage you to ‘share’ the gospel with one of your ‘Pray for 3’ and have found a great way to do this easily and simply using a guide book on St John’s Gospel [it includes the bible passage and even includes the answers!].  Andrew has been using this successfully with a few people, it’s fun, accessible and everyone learns something new including the facilitator.

There will be one off training session on ‘sharing’ the gospel on July 22nd at 7.45pm for 8pm via Zoom [repeated in September [DTBC]]
It will be chaired by Andrew Beswetherick and led by Mark Campbell from ‘Word 121’ who have created the guide book: https://www.theword121.com/
Please email Andrew Beswetherick on: andrewbmh@gmail.com
for more info or to sign up.

Love your neighbour by showing the gospel.
James 2: 17 In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action, is dead.18 But someone will say, “You have faith; I have deeds.
“Show me your faith without deeds, and I will show you my
faith by my deeds.
We also long to ‘show’ the love of Jesus to our ‘neighbours’, to seek to show Christ’s love through our actions and demonstrate how He can transform lives. Here are a few ways in which we can do this:

1.Support local children by buying stationary packs, donating second hand books, puzzles, art resources. Go to the end of this email for details how to do this. NB By 13th July.

2. Foodbank: They are in much need of tinned & packaged foods, toiletries etc. If you can help please do drop items off into the box provided in the front garden of our temporary collection point:
49 Banchory Rd SE3 8SL

Look out for projects over the coming months that give opportunities
to show ‘Love to your neighbour’ practically.

Please do contact us on andrewjanebes@gmail.com if you want to know more or have suggestions of how you think St Johns’ could help impact the lives of those in need in our community.
Yours in Jesus
