Dear church family

“A friend loves at all times.”  Proverbs 17:17

” [Jesus said] I have called you friends. ”  John 15:15

The recent hot weather and easing of restrictions is making it easier to meet other people, and tomorrow our first June Picnics are happening! Some of us are excited about being out and about more, others are more nervous, and for others it’s still impossible. What’s more, friendships are precious – especially friendships with fellow followers of Christ – but often they don’t come easily. They’re best when we’re deliberate in intention, generous with our time, open about ourselves, and present with others rather than being distracted. Is this always easy? I don’t think so!

Gazing on Jesus is the best way to find strength for friendship. He knows intimately what true friendship means – loving at all times (Prov. 17:17) – and loved us all the way to sacrificing his life for us on the cross, and beyond. Then he gives us his perfect friendship as a gift – “I have called you friends”, he told his disciples (John 15:15). This isn’t quaint – it’s staggering when you think about it! The creator of the cosmos calls us “friends”! Dear friends at St John’s, my prayer is that we enjoy sharing Jesus’s friendship together, and, by gazing on him, find strength to give friendship to each other.

Warmly in Christ,

Following a year’s pause due to the pandemic, plans are underway to relaunch this winter. It will no longer be able to run the rolling church model and is looking for a premises to set up a static shelter.

How can you support?

GWNS is looking for a building where it can set up either a temporary (November 21-March 22) or longer-term shelter. If you know of a building which might serve this purpose, email katy@gwns.org.uk.
GWNS relies heavily on donations and will be facing increasing costs as it transitions to a static shelter. Donations can be made via our website.
Above all else, please pray for the needs of the homeless and those in poverty. Please pray also that GWNS can continue to be an effective part of the solution as we develop.

Morning Services at 9.15am and 11.15am both in person and livestreamed via St John’s YouTube channel.  We will look at Acts 4:1-22 on persecution and proclaiming Christ in a hostile culture.

Evening Service at 6pm in person, and recording will be available on our YouTube channel. We continue in Ephesians 4:4 looking at “One Baptism”.

Edmund Sutton is looking to replace his car. “If anyone knows anyone interested in purchasing a small car, perhaps someone learning to drive, then I have rather tatty Renault Clio (2003) available for a few hundred pounds.”
If interested, please contact Edmund on edmund_sutton@hotmail.com.
