Dear brothers and sisters,

“…our comfort abounds in Christ…” (2 Corinthians 1:5)

The death of HRH Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh, has brought much grief and sadness. There’s much we can give thanks for in his life, not least his example of enduring faithfulness and dedication to serving others, without seeking the limelight for himself.

We think especially of the Queen in her personal grief at losing her husband. We can thank God that she personally trusts in Jesus Christ for her life and salvation, and we pray that her “comfort abounds in Christ” deeply at this time. As her loss no doubt coincides with our own losses and sufferings, may we, too, receive comfort by looking to Christ who suffered death, was raised and now sits with his heavenly Father from where he guards and guides his people.

On a practical note, we’re glad to be having in-person 6pm services now; for the moment these won’t be live-streamed. We’re also grateful that the St John’s Foodbank Welcome Centre has opened today – we’ll be hearing about it from Julia Wright in tomorrow’s services.
