Dear brothers and sisters in Christ,
Hebrews 10.24-25 says ‘Let us consider how we may spur one another on towards love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encourage one another – and all the more as you see the Day approaching.’
Live streaming of services is a great help and blessing to many who for health reasons cannot get out, and especially in our current situation with Coronavirus. However, at the same time it is with sadness that we have to do this because ‘church’ is not an event but a people. The event of Sunday services are what the church does when it gathers, but family is what the church is. If you’ve ever had a family member living abroad, you will know that virtual face-to-face meeting is never the same as physically being together as a family – it’s the same for the church.
Of course, we must act wisely and responsibly, heeding the government advice to restrict the spread of the virus. But let us, with the writer of Hebrews, find ways to ‘spur one another on towards love and good deeds’ with a longing for the day we can meet together again.
This Sunday we will be live streaming one service at 10am and you can access this via the website https://www.stjohnsblackheath.org.uk/ – where you will find a link to click on. Attached to this email are two documents you will need to participate at home: the Service of the Word card and a song sheet. Please bear with us as we seek to make this work.
Matt and Sophie have, and will continue to make contact about updates and teaching for children and young people. Unfortunately, Sophie and her husband Josh have been instructed to return home by the Australian government, and for now she will continue to work, like most of us, remotely from ‘down under’. Please pray for them as this was a difficult decision and they hope to return as soon as possible.
Finally, please make use of the church building, it is open during the day for prayer. If you require help or prayer please do contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org
As ever in Christ,
