Seated in Heavenly Places
I have been thinking about how to pray in these difficult times and I’ve been re-reading the Lord’s prayer, and particularly these first lines:
‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.’ Matthew 6:9-10
Then I’ve been reflecting on Ephesians 2:6, where it says we are seated in heavenly realms or places. When I think about this I imagine what it would be like to look around heaven. What can I see? Well, there is no sickness, poverty, addiction, fear or anxiety but there is unity with the Father and with one another. There is joy, peace, freedom and love.
So then when I went back to the prayer that Jesus taught us, Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. I began to pray what I saw for example:
Father, my friend is afraid, in heaven there is peace, Lord let your peace come in their lives as it is in heaven.
Father, my family member is struggling with drugs or alcohol, please bring them freedom, on earth as it is in heaven where there is no addiction.
Lord, the world is in chaos and desperately needs you, please let your kingdom come and your will be done. Bring hope and peace on earth as it is in heaven.
There are so many things we can bring to the Father as we pray in this way. As we look at scripture what do we see heaven is like. From what we learn, we can ask God to bring change, hope, healing and peace to all sorts of situations.
That’s a very powerful thing. I hope to apply this to my prayer life more and more.

Lord Jesus thank you for teaching us how to pray. Thank you that we can pray for heaven and earth to be connected. Thank you for the hope this gives us as we bring ours and other’s burdens, griefs and sicknesses to you. Let your name be lifted up in all the earth.
