Longing for home
I miss gathering as a church. I hope you do too.
I miss physically meeting as a church family. It’s just not the same online. And we’ve all felt that haven’t we? There’s so much about gathering to miss!
I miss hearing God’s Word preached whilst being surrounded by my brothers and sisters in Christ. Of course I miss lifting my voice in song to praise God along with others around me. I miss catching up over a coffee or praying with someone after a service. I miss those less tangible things, simply being together.
A few weeks ago, we asked on our social media what people were missing most about gathering together. One person said this, “Having the feeling of coming home when you walk in”
Ephesians chapter 2 says this about Christians, “You are no longer foreigners and strangers, but fellow citizens with God’s people and also members of his household, built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, with Christ Jesus himself as the chief cornerstone. In him the whole building is joined together and rises to become a holy temple in the Lord. And in him you too are being built together to become a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.”
As Christians, we are members of his household. We are being built together. Together we are becoming a dwelling in which God lives by his Spirit.
So of course it’s right to miss gathering together.
But let the longing for church push you to a greater longing for home. A longing for your true home. When Jesus returns and we see God face to face, then we’ll really be home. We long for that day when he will wipe away every tear from our eyes. When God will fully and finally dwell with his people in a brand new creation.

Give us patience Lord as we wait. Help us to place our hope in our eternal home with Jesus. Amen
