The Weekly Word: Anxiety

Do you feel like the rug has been pulled out from under your feet..? And then that same rug has been placed over your head to smother you?!

Covid-19 is the hot topic! It is undoubtedly going to bring out some thorny responses from all of us. Surely the overwhelming reaction everyone is having right now is worry or anxiety. That worry is manifesting itself in a whole host of ways. Some are panic buying, others are losing sleep. But let’s be honest, we are all a little worried right?

God has much to say in the Bible over our concerns and worries. In Matthew 6:26 Jesus says, “Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?”

Your heavenly Father really does value you! He is both in control and good. We can trust that he knows what’s going on in each of our lives right now. One day we’ll be able to look back and maybe we’ll be able to see a little clearer what God was orchestrating through all of this. But until then we can be sure that our Father hasn’t forgotten about us, he values us even now.

How do we know he values us? Well remember who says those words in Matthew 6:26. Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Jesus is the one who didn’t self-isolate in heaven but was instead sent by the Father to redeem our sinful and broken mess. God our Father values his people so much that he would send his one and only Son to die on the cross.

So we can be sure that God really does value us. He is looking after us and all will be put right on the final day. For now we can take one day at a time, trusting the Lord every step of the way.
