The Reader’s Rant

The Reader’s Rant - Image of man ranting to a woman in public

When asked to write about 200 words of ranting I thought that it would be easy. However when I sat down it suddenly dawned on me that there were so many things I could complain about that I couldn’t decide what to choose.

I asked various wise people what to pick and I got: public transport, the education system, Ipods, binge drinking and more. Now, whilst I think public transport is overpriced, the education system flawed, Ipods flashy, irritating and ultimately not the best MP3 players out there and binge drinking immature and embarrassing… [pause for breath]… they were not topics that I thought might interest people, despite how I may feel.

Ranting about such things, indeed anything, is the kind of thing that you do to the person that you are travelling to work with to fill the time. I then realised that maybe the reason that it is something to fill the time is because it isn’t really worthwhile. Unless you are going to do something about whatever you are moaning about, complaining is fruitless and more often than not will only annoy you and those around you. What I concluded was: why rant? To use the wonderful cliché, ‘life is just too short’.
