Magi: The Three Kings – Who were they? Were there three? Were they kings? Probably not. Magi were part of a priestly tribe from Persia, among other places, wise men of the area, versed in astrology and magic. The number three comes from the three gifts they brought; gold, frankincense and myrrh. Their wealth and connections with Herod lead to the idea that they were kings.
