STEP Groups

The goal of [S]t John [T]he [E]vangelist [P]rogramme or STEP is to encourage every member of St. John’s church to belong to a group which builds friendship and faith. The groups vary in what they do, but are held together by our common vision for Meeting God, Growing Together and Reaching Out.

Meeting God

To honour Jesus in all that we do.
To grow in understanding the Bible and experiencing God.

Growing Together

To build relationships that are open and loving.
To encourage individuals to grow in maturity and faith.

Reaching Out

To serve others by using our gifts and talents.
To share our faith in God with those outside the group.

Why are STEP groups important?

Relationships are at the heart of church life and most people that have been part of a group say that the greatest benefit is the close friendships that develop. Life as a Christian is not always straightforward and STEP groups provide a great forum for us to discuss and learn together. The church is called to grow by going out to others and inviting others in. STEP groups provide a creative and fun opportunity for us to do this together.

Homegroups

Groups that meet in people’s homes to discuss the Bible, pray together, have fun, support each other and reach out. Homegroups meet at varied locations and times during the week.

Short Courses

St John’s regularly runs courses to help people grow in their understanding of the Christian faith and how it relates to different parts of their lives e.g. Alpha course, Marriage course and Marriage preparation.

Community Groups

We are involved in a variety of groups that reach out to people in the local area e.g. Boys Brigade (Thursday evenings), Pam’s Pantry (Tuesday lunch club), Footprints Toddler Group (Monday morning and afternoon)
